I thought you might be wondering where we are. So, here’s a brief update.

We’re actually back in Portugal, on the Algarve – where we are being offered a smorgasbord of unseasonable weather. The low temperatures, rain, and wind have kept us inside for several days.

Bill took this photo (below) which not only illustrates the weather but, coincidentally, can also serve as a metaphor for what’s happening with our government in America, and in other places around the world. Umbrellas are no longer useful.

It’s easy to be subsumed in darkness and to lose sight of the horizon. But I’ve taken some pictures of our surroundings during momentary breaks in the clouds. It helps me to be reminded of what’s on the other side of gray.

Last night I dreamed that when we finally returned home, we found other people living in our house! The new occupants asked us to leave, and suggested we find a room at the Pink Adobe. Isn’t that a restaurant?

It feels as if a totally different world has emerged since we left on January 15th. Who knows what it will be like when we return to Santa Fe at the end of April. We might not even be allowed back in.

Tomorrow, we leave Portugal to spend 10 days in Malta. If you are unfamiliar with it; Malta is an island nation off the coast of Sicily. Like Crete, Malta has served as a (geographic and political) stepping stone between Europe and Africa.

Bill and I seem to be drawn to these places that create a bridge between worlds. Although conflict is usually part of the process on the long road to transformation; cultural evolution and diversity intrigue us.

Malta has a “colorful” history. We’re hoping to encounter interesting art and food there. We’re also hoping for better weather, and a break from CNN.
